PAGASA, 2 Others Recognize NEWS5 Aksyon Weather Center’s High Tech But Easy-to-Understand Weather Reporting
Three organizations recently cited NEWS5 Aksyon Weather Center’s effort to raise the bar on the delivery of weather reports using its high-tech graphics system and understandable way of reporting, especially during typhoons.
Government weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), AGHAM Partylist and the Philippine Meteorology Society presented a plaque of recognition to NEWS5 during the READY Project National Conference organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and PAGASA at the Hotel Sofitel.
AGHAM Partylist Representative Angelo Palmones cited NEWS5 Aksyon Weather Center “for its ingenious contributions and unwavering dedication in upholding the highest standards of sciences in the field of meteorology in the Philippines. It has advanced the methods in which weather forecasts are disseminated, delivering a more visual and accurate relay of information to the Filipino public.”
Palmones related that TV5 deserves the award as “what they are doing is not just the visual impact para sa mga manonood, but pag-laymanizing the science of weather forecasting.” The network’s cutting-edge weather graphic representation was particularly cited, not just for its visual appeal but for its understandable presentation. “Magandang effort ito para maintindihan ng mga tao kung ano ang kahalagahan ng meteorology program by understanding yung pagbabago ng ating panahon through weather reporting,” he added.
Launched in September last year, TV5 has taken the lead among the country’s major national networks in providing the most sophisticated and highly advanced weather reporting system to Filipino viewers across the nation after teaming up with New Zealand-based state-of-the-art meteorology service Metra Weatherscape XT.
Aired over TV5 and 24/7 Filipino news channel Aksyon TV, the current roster of Aksyon Weather presenters include Lourd de Veyra, Shawn Yao, Manu Sandejas, Marga Vargas, Lia Cruz, France Noguera, Pat Fernandez, Joseph Ubalde and Ice Martinez.
TV5 also integrates the Metra weather system in InterAksyon.com, its online news portal, with the launch of a weather section last September. The section provides more localized news for regions and provinces, as well as a weather dashboard that gives up-to-date information on weather, disasters, and other alerts affected by the environment.
